Chef John, I have enjoyed most all of your recipes. There are a couple of things that Ido not enjoy: broccoli and chitlins. I believe both of them were invented by Democrats! yuck!

The soy sauce added a great flavor, I used beef broth instead of chicken, what a meal. Thanks.

We called it American chop suey , the kids in our state would not have eaten a goulash just by the sound of its name

My mother did a ground beef version in the early '60s or so, hers with green bell pepper. She entered and had it published in the local paper. It was good, and I endeavored to copy it, but this blazes a flavor trail, no question. Thank you!

Did you have like 99.9% ground beef, how did you end up with no fat/grease at the end of cooking the ground beef

My childhood American goulash had nearly identical ingredients, but was baked as a casserole with Swiss cheese on it. Still crave that occasionally.

Never had any good results doing it that way, I have to cook the macaroni and add it to the beef, I just put the water, broth with the macaroni instead of the beef and yes it has to have beans, butter bread!!

We call it slumgum in our house, from the Irish/Welsh/Scottish/English, not sure which one, slumgullion.

an idea might be to cook it with some cheese rind (if you have) to cook into some of that taste.. might add even more taste than just some shredded cheese..

    Dry bottom status.
Sounds like a military term for those on diaper detail.
Overcook the pasta and it becomes gooo-lash.
    Hungary man's dish.
Add beans and you get an after dinner concerto, Flight of the Bumblebee in B flat-ulence.

I just made this last night. Delicious!!! So much depth of flavor with all the added spices. My mom used to make this when I was a kid but just with a jar of spaghetti sauce. This is much better. I used good quality pasta and sauce. That makes a big difference as well. I've got my lemons soaking in sugar for your State Fair Lemonade, next. Can't wait to try that!!!
